Mark Schuh is a Subject Matter Expert with Asset Performance Canada, based out of the company’s office in Calgary, Alberta. Mark has over 30 years of experience in maintenance, reliability, and operations, largely within heavy industries. He has a particular passion and skill for helping organizations increase their performance in turnarounds, ensuring higher predictability and successful outcomes. This passion is backed by extensive experience successfully managing turnarounds.
Mark is a business-minded individual with a keen sense of what it takes to drive organizations to higher levels of sustained performance. He has gained a reputation for delivering high quality, fit-for-purpose maintenance and reliability management programs, and for leading organizations in their drive for excellence. His more recent management experience encompasses oil sands and capital-heavy turnarounds.
Mark has focused on driving organizational improvements within turnaround management and planning teams throughout his career. He regularly leads turnaround steering team alignment workshops and provides ongoing steering team effectiveness coaching for a number of AP-Canada clients.
Mark has been consistently engaged in turnaround execution for more than 20 years, working on weekly, annual, and biennial turnarounds ranging from 10,000 labor hour, day-long turnarounds to 1.75 million labor hour outages spanning several weeks.
Prior to joining AP-Networks, Mark led the execution of numerous successful turnarounds and shutdowns in the oil and gas industry, recently in SAGD oil sands, as well as in the forest products, mining, and smelting industries, delivering many turnarounds with large capital components ahead of schedule and under budget.
He has held leadership and management positions in operations, maintenance, and reliability improvement, in addition to plant and facilities engineering. Throughout his career, Mark has worked to introduce proven strategies and operational excellence principles that increase workforce effectiveness, thereby creating proactive, nimble organizations.
Mark holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta, as well as an advanced Business Management certification from the University of Calgary. He is a registered professional engineer.
