AP-Networks Develops Project-Turnaround Integration Index

Bethesda, Maryland, March 1^st, 2009 — One of the most important risk factors for turnarounds with significant capital project scope is the level of integration between the turnaround and capital project teams. AP-Networks has developed an index to measure the quality of organizational and planning integration between these two areas. The index is empirically based and uses data from more than 70 large capital project driven turnarounds executed since 2004. The index was built by statistically identifying the most important drivers of turnaround schedule and cost performance. A higher index score is strongly related to better outcomes. The index includes organizational factors, detailed planning and scheduling elements, and team alignment components. The index can be used to quickly pinpoint major gaps between the project and turnaround teams. The analysis showed that many turnarounds were lacking key items such as an integrated schedule and a single event manager which was leading to poorer results. The index can be used to quickly pinpoint major gaps and issues between the project and turnaround teams.

The Integration Index can be used during the AP-Networks Integrated Project-Turnaround Review or as part of the Turnaround Assist Program (T-AP). The index has been used on more than a dozen turnaround reviews in the US, Europe, and Asia.
