Tools and consulting services for the
refining sector
Within 4 short years, APN has become the premier firm in helping refiners
improve Turnaround performance. APN tools and processes have been adopted by
most of the leading US refiners such as BP, Chevron, ConocoPhilips, Shell,
and Valero to name a few. This domestic success has translated overseas. APN
has worked with refineries in Australia, Germany, France, the Netherlands,
South Africa, Singapore, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.
The refinery industry has continued to struggle with medium to high complexity
turnarounds with large amounts of capital work. The environment for executing
turnarounds continues to become more difficult due to skilled labor shortages
and schedule pressures. Since its launch in 2001, the APN Turnaround Assist
Program (T-AP) has been used by more than 250 individual refinery turnarounds
and the number increases every year. This growth has been underpinned by a
world-class team of consultants and an innovative tool-set to help teams
better manage the entire turnaround process. Our toolset for turnarounds
includes the following proprietary tools:
- Turnaround Readiness Pyramid
- Turnaround Risk Manager
- Risk Based Scope Tool
- Cost of Change Tool
- Turnaround Complexity

These tools along with our expert consulting services have delivered
results and in some cases have helped turnaround teams win major internal
company awards. The APN sponsored Turnaround Industry Network Conference
(TINC) is attended by most refiners and facilitates the sharing of best
practices across the industry.
APN also provides a comprehensive suite of consulting services and tools
for refinery capital projects. APN has worked with many refineries to
initiate project improvement programs to improve both the planning and execution
of plant managed projects. This has been accomplished through the development
and implementation of work processes, individual project risk and readiness
workshops, contractor performance audits, and lessons learned exercises.
