Tools and consulting services for the chemicals sector

APN has worked with many of the industry's leading Chemical producers to improve Turnaround performance. In recent years, this industry has struggled with medium to high complexity turnarounds, particularly when it is combined with large amounts of capital work. The environment for executing turnarounds continues to become more difficult due to skilled labor shortages and schedule pressures. The APN Turnaround Assist Program (T-AP) has been used by more than 50 individual chemical turnarounds and the number increases every year. This growth has been underpinned by a world-class team of consultants and an innovative tool-set to help teams better manage the entire turnaround process. Our toolset for turnarounds includes the following proprietary tools:

We have developed a number of methodologies and have worked with many of the industry leaders to:

  • Turnaround Readiness Pyramid
  • Turnaround Risk Manager
  • Risk Based Scope Tool
  • Cost of Change Tool
  • Turnaround Complexity Calculator

These tools along with our expert consulting services have delivered results. One major chemical company achieved its best ever turnaround performance using a coordinated program of APN tools and a part-time senior APN consultant to help the team prepare for and execute the turnaround. The APN sponsored Turnaround Industry Network Conference (TINC) is attended by many chemical companies and facilitates the sharing of best practices across the industry.

Compared with the turnaround sector, APN's products and services for chemical capital projects is newer but is starting to achieve solid results. APN has worked with several chemical plants to initiate project improvement programs to improve both the planning and execution of plant managed projects. This has been accomplished through the development and implementation of work processes, individual project risk and readiness workshops, contractor performance audits, and lessons learned exercises.
