UK Institution of Chemical Engineers – Manchester, England Print E-mail

IChemE, Project Management Subject Group, Seminar, "Getting off on the Right Foot"; Project Control and Preparation During the Front End Phases – Manchester, England – March 11, 2010

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, January 2010 — Gordon Lawrence, from the Amsterdam office of Asset Performance Networks will be chairing a seminar taking place on March 11, 2010 in Manchester, England. The seminar is being run by the Project Management Subject Group of the UK Institution of Chemical Engineers. John Alkemade, the European Director of Asset Performance Networks, will also attend and will present a paper on mitigation of project risk.

The seminar will look at the issue that while Capital Investment projects to build new facilities or renovate existing facilities continue to be an important topic for Chemical Engineers, many projects fail to reach their cost, schedule or operability targets. Numerous studies show that project failures can invariably be traced back to problems in the way that the projects were set up and defined during the early front end design phase. The seminar is aimed at engineers working on projects, either as an end user of the completed facility, owner representative, dealing with the contractors, or as the contractor. The seminar will discuss some of the most up to date best practice advice, while also providing examples from those who have "been there".
