Risk-based Scoping & Turnaround Assessments
Chet Unruh
Chet
is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the company's Houston office. He has over
thirty years of professional experience in the petrochemical industry, and is a
recognized industry expert in the areas of risk-based scoping and turnaround
assessments.
Since joining AP-Networks, Chet has been the subject matter expert on more
than 15 turnarounds for refining and chemical clients. While at AP-Networks, he
has developed an advanced risk-based methodology that allows managers to
optimize their turnaround scope. This advanced methodology allows for better
determination of inherent risks, and facilitates improved decision-making in
turnaround work scope. Experience with this advanced methodology has shown
significant savings are achievable without decreasing plant reliability. In
addition to his expertise in turnaround readiness and scoping, Chet has coached
and mentored turnaround managers in the implementation of industry best
practices.
Recently, Chet was a member of an AP-Networks team responsible for the
development of a corporate integrated turnaround management system for an
overseas client. His deep knowledge of successful turnaround practices was
instrumental for the project.
Prior to his consulting experience at Shell Global Solutions, Chet worked
for Shell Oil in various positions in maintenance, operations, and contracts.
Most of his refinery career however was in maintenance where he was involved in
more than 100 turnarounds of various complexities as a project engineer,
maintenance engineer, and turnaround manager. He was Chairman of The Corporate
Maintenance Management Council whose mission was to improve maintenance
competitiveness across all the company's refineries, worldwide.
Chet is a pilot, and has a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Kansas
State University.
